5 OF THE BEST APRES ACTIVITIES IN SUN PEAKS

The lifts have stopped turning and it’s time to enjoy the other side of Sun Peaks – the side that gets going when après hour kicks in.

As Canada’s second-largest ski area, it’s a phenomenal spot to enjoy the slopes, but you’ll have to go beyond the skiing and snowboarding to discover just how much more this resort has to offer. Here are our five favourite things to do after hours in Sun Peaks.

1. Sign yourself up for something you’ve never done before

You know what they say – when’s the last time you did something for the first time? Sun Peaks is full of unique activities and a lot of them can be done at the end of the ski day.

Try the Moonlight Snowshoe and S'mores tour where you can experience the magic of winter's night on the snowy trails followed by a tasty treat by the roaring campfire. Go tubing on the uniquely curved lanes of the Sun Peaks tube park, open daily until 7pm. Or sign yourself up for a horse-drawn sleigh ride that’ll guide you through snow-frosted forests and under the stars while you cozy up in blankets.

2. Ski by head torch – fondue included

This is an amazing opportunity to explore the mountain long after everyone else has stopped skiing for the day. Enjoy a three-course fondue meal at the mid-mountain Sunburst Bar + Eatery, making your way through Swiss-style cheese and chocolate, before joining a guide to ski back down the mountain under a canopy of stars.

3. Discover the behind-the-scenes world of grooming

Ever wondered how the groomers work their on-slope magic to get that perfect corduroy? Sun Peaks is one of the only resorts where you can actually experience it firsthand by climbing onto a groomer for the evening. Join one of their crew in a Pisten Bully Snow Groomer and lap up every second of it – with just one person allowed per tour, it’s genuinely unique bucket-list experience.

4. Cheer for your new favourite hockey team

Hockey is the most Canadian sport of all time, and no Canadian experience is complete without a trip to a hockey game. Luckily, Sun Peaks provides easy access to watch their local major junior ice hockey team, the Kamloops Blazers, in action on the ice. Trips include transportation and a hockey game, making it easy for you to enjoy a drink, a hot dog and a really fun game.

5. Drink – and eat – the night away

With a significant variety of on-mountain restaurants, pubs and cafes, you won’t go hungry in Sun Peaks. Irish pub Morrisey’s Public House is a favourite amongst locals for the all-essential après scene, along with the super-lively Bottoms Bar & Grill.

We like Cahilty Creek Kitchen & Taproom, which has no less than 16 different craft beers on tap, along with regional wines and local ciders.  Who wouldn’t? Start there, then make your way to Voyageur Bistro for a bison burger, or to Joe Poutine to try a different kind of poutine every night, you’ll ski it off the next day, right?
