A day well spent in South Lake Tahoe
Start the day the American way with buttermilk pancakes and waffles at Driftwood Café. The savoury lover can chow down on black bean chicken chili omelets or try the Carolina Connection for traditional southern biscuits and gravy.
Burn the breakfast off and hit up Kirkwood or Heavenly ski resorts. If you have an Epic season pass then you can jump on the chairlift half an hour early (8.30am) for first tracks on a Wednesday at Heavenly or every other Friday at Kirkwood.

Head back to South Lake Tahoe for an afternoon on Heavenly’s slopes skiing across Nevada and California state lines in the one resort with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. If you’re there by 1pm then you can ‘ski with a ranger’ from Monday to Friday. Learn about how the Forest Service and the ski area work together to promote environmental issues and understandings.
Those who simply can’t leave work at home will be happy to know that Heavenly even has a shared office space for ski in ski out entrepreneurs. The Mountain Lab offers mid mountain hourly or single day co working desks so you don’t have to leave the ski hill to file that report or send that email.
Heavenly loves après so expect half price drinks across their après bars from 3.30pm to 5.30pm daily. Start at the top of the gondola at Tamarack Lodge for DJs and dancing on tables. Head to Booyah’s at Lakeview Lodge at the top of the tram for 97 microbrews. Then head to TAP under the Tamarack Chair for craft beer samples from 3pm to 4pm daily. Still thirsty? Try Boulder Lodge for families, California Bar for tequilas and Stagecoach for locals.
Hungry? Try Jimmy’s at The Landing for Greek inspired shared plates in a contemporary setting or The Chart House lakeview restaurant for sunsets over the lake and dine on fresh seafood and prime rib.
If you’re feeling lucky then head to the casinos on the Nevada state line to play the tables and channel your inner Bond. The Hard Rock, Harrah’s, Harvey’s and Mont Bleu all serve up Vegas style night club entertainment for those looking for a side of dancing with their roulette. Lakeside Hotel and Casino has a more local laidback vibe and Latin fusion restaurant.
