Voted Australia's best ski resort 2017, Thredbo ticks all the boxes for the perfect snowy getaway. The mountain boasts almost double the vertical of any other Australian mountain and has the longest run at a thigh burning 5.9km. While the mountain is a playground for snow lovers, the vibrant village located right at the bottom looks after the social, family and party scene.
At Thredbo you'll find plenty of activities to keep the non-skiers in your group entertained. Bar and restaurant hop around the village, take in the fireworks and flare run every Saturday night or step into some snowshoes and explore.
Kids ski free
Between 9 June to 29 June and 3 September to 1 October kids aged 5-17 ski FREE at Thredbo when accompanied by a paying adult.
Thredbo has a diverse range of accommodation options – cosy lodges, hotels, self-contained apartments and luxurious chalets. If you're looking to keep to a strict budget another alternative is to stay in the nearby town Jindabyne, located a 35 minute drive from Thredbo.
How to get there

Getting to the mountains from Sydney is an easy drive on the Eastern Distributor, with only a few sets of traffic lights to Thredbo. From Melbourne, the fully sealed Kosciuszko Alpine Way is your scenic window as you wind through the spectacular Kosciuszko National Park.
Distance & driving times from major cities:
Sydney 5 - 6 hrs
Melbourne 5.5 - 7 hrs
Canberra 2.5 hrs
The roads are clear for most of the year, but when the big snowfalls hit, chains may be required for 2 wheel drives. Chains can be hired in Jindabyne and Khancoban. When hiring they will need to know your tyre size and be sure to ask them about any fitting tips.
For up to date road conditions please call the RTA traffic information line on 132 701. Select option 1 for road closures from storms, snow and ice etc and then option 1 again for Southern NSW. This will take you straight to the conditions for the Snowy Mountains. If in the local area tune to 2XL or 97.7 Snow FM for regular updates.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service collect park use fees upon entry to the park. You can purchase your pass from the Entrance Station 13km before you get to Thredbo, the cost is $29 per vehicle for 24 hours. You can find more information here.
