Ski Jasper / Marmot BasinLocated in the breathtaking, vast and ruggedly mountainous landscape of Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Marmot Basin is a ski destination that inspires lasting memories. The national park boasts deep valleys that are home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, waterfalls and lakes frozen in time, carpets of thick, green forests blanketing the earth and the serene beauty of the snowcapped peaks carries on as far as the eye can see. One of these peaks is host to the 1,675 acres of superb slopes that make up Marmot Basin. Only 20 minutes from the town of Jasper, Marmot Basin offers 3,000 vertical feet of superb skiing and snowboarding.
With 86 marked trails, the terrain is nicely varied; from long, gentle, winding novice runs to steep, high alpine bowls and chutes and glade skiing through verdant pine forests. The ski and snowboard runs are split evenly between easy, intermediate, advanced and expert, making this an ideal destination for the whole family and all abilities.
After an exhilarating day on the slopes, the town of Jasper offers everything a visitor might want. With a permanent population of 4500 residents, Jasper has managed to preserve a small-town feeling while offering amenities you’d expect from a world-class winter resort.
Jasper offers a variety of accommodation choices to suit all tastes and budgets. From oversized rooms located right downtown, to family-style units complete with full-service kitchens, to private lakeshore cabins, there's something for everyone.
NEW FOR 2009-10
LONGEST HIGH-SPEED QUAD CHAIR IN THE ALBERTA CANADIAN ROCKIES
Marmot Basin is home to the longest high speed quad chair in the Alberta Canadian Rockies, the Canadian Rockies Express! This new chairlift, manufactured by Leitner Poma will cost 8 million dollars, is one of the most significant ski lift developments in North America this season, and will vastly improve the overall experience for skiers and snowboarders.
LONGER! The Canadian Rockies Express high speed quad chairlift is 2.3 km long, has a vertical rise of 596 meters (1,955 ft) and provides a 4 km nonstop run! All ability levels can ride the new high speed quad chair and find a run from the top to suit their skill level.
HIGHER! Ride the Canadian Rockies Express uninterrupted from the base of the ski area to the top of the upper mountain.
FASTER! With a line speed of 5.08 metres per second, the new lift will whisk skiers and snowboarders up 2.3 kilometres in 7.5 minutes.
BETTER SNOW COVERAGE! Marmot Basin has added permanent snow fencing to the upper triple area and leveled the triple access and beginner area at the base of the mountain to allow easier access to our lifts.
NO LIFT LINES – MORE SLOPE TIME! With two high speed lifts from the base area, the lift system will carry up to 4,800 skiers per hour out of the lower mountain. Marmot’s carrying capacity to skier visit ratio is one of the highest anywhere meaning line ups will be all but non-existent and time spent skiing and boarding on the slopes will be maximized.
MORE OPEN SLOPE SKIING! In the upper area with the removal of the Kiefer T-Bar and the addition of the Canadian Rockies Express we have named two new runs Wipe out and Escalator.
TERRAIN PARK – BIGGER, BETTER & A NEW LOCATION! The Rogers Terrain Park has been moved to “Lift Line” in the lower area of the mountain, making it accessible to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Marmot Basin is a big playground and this winter our new terrain park is bigger and better than ever before. Our state of the art snowmaking system in the lower area allows for improved features and better transitions.
